পৃথিবীর কিছু সমুদ্রসৈকতে রাতে ঢেউয়ের সঙ্গে নীল আলো জ্বলতে দেখা যায়। এই বিস্ময়কর ঘটনাকে বায়োলুমিনেসেন্স বলা হয়। বিশেষ কিছু সামুদ্রিক জীব রাসায়নিক বিক্রিয়ার মাধ্যমে আলো তৈরি করে। ঢেউয়ের নড়াচড়ায় সেই আলো আরও দৃশ্যমান হতে পারে। মালদ্বীপ, থাইল্যান্ডসহ বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন স্থানে নির্দিষ্ট পরিস্থিতিতে এমন মনোমুগ্ধকর দৃশ্য দেখা যায়। 

Some beaches around the world display beautiful blue lights when waves move across the shoreline at night. This phenomenon is called bioluminescence. Certain marine organisms produce light through chemical reactions inside their bodies. Movement can make their glow more visible. Under suitable conditions, spectacular displays appear in places such as the Maldives, Thailand and other coastal regions.
