• নামকরণ: ফার্সি ভাষায় 'কোহিনূর' শব্দের অর্থ হলো 'আলোর পাহাড়'। 

• মালিকানা বদল: এই হীরাটি যার কোহিনূর এক অভিশপ্ত হীরা – কি কেন কিভাবে অধিকারে গেছে, তারই পতন ঘটেছে। মুঘল সম্রাট, নাদির শাহ, শিখ শাসক থেকে শুরু করে কেউই এর অভিশাপ থেকে রেহাই পাননি।

• বিশ্বাস: কিংবদন্তি আছে, পুরুষ মানুষের এই হীরা ধারণ করা নিষেধ। যে পুরুষ এটি পরেছে, সে ধ্বংস বা চরম বিপদের মুখে পড়েছে। তাই ব্রিটিশ রাজপরিবারে শুধু রানীরাই এটি ব্যবহার করেছেন।

• বর্তমান অবস্থান: বর্তমানে ১০৫.৬ ক্যারেটের এই হীরাটি লন্ডনের টাওয়ার অব লন্ডনে ব্রিটিশ রাজমুকুটের অংশ হিসেবে সংরক্ষিত আছে। এ নিয়ে ভারত, পাকিস্তানসহ বিভিন্ন দেশের মধ্যে ঐতিহাসিক দাবি ও বিতর্ক রয়েছে।
