মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র সারা বিশ্বে গণতন্ত্রের ছবক দিয়ে বেড়ায়। কিন্তু মুলতঃ এটি একটি মেকি গণতন্ত্র। এরা নিজেদের স্বার্থে মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের বিভিন্ন দেশের বাদশাহী শাসনের ও অনেক দেশের সামরিক শাসনের সাথে যেমন দস্তি করে ঠিক তেমনি নিজ স্বার্থে বিভিন্ন দেশের গণতান্ত্রিকভাবে নির্বাচিত শাসককে ষড়যন্ত্র করেই হোক কিংবা সরাসরি সামরিক কায়দায় হোক উচ্ছেদ করতে কার্পণ্য করে না।

আবার তার নিজ দেশের গণতন্ত্রের অবস্থা যদি কোন দেহের সাথে তুলনা করা হয় তবে হাড্ডিসার ছাড়া কিছুই পাবেন না। এখানে জনগণের এই অধিকার, সেই অধিকার, অমুক স্বাধীনতা , তমুক স্বাধীনতার কথা বলা হলেও তা সব কিছুই নিয়ন্ত্রিত সীমার মধ্যে। এখানে প্রেসিডেন্টকে এমন এমন কিছু ক্ষমতা দেয়া হয়েছে, চাইলে তিনি স্বৈরতন্ত্র চালু করতে পারেন।      আবার ডনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের শাসনকালে গণতন্ত্রতো খুবই নাজুক অবস্থায় আছে। ট্রাম্প তার প্রেসিডেন্সিয়াল পাওয়ারকে এতো নগ্নভাবে  প্রয়োগ করছেন যে মনে হয় উনি একনায়কতন্ত্রের খুব কাছাকাছি চলে গিয়েছেন। তাই যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের গণতন্ত্রকে আপনি দুই ভাবে ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারেন ট্রাম্পের শাসনকাল বনাম অন্যদের শাসনকাল। আমেরিকার গণতন্ত্রকে যদি মানব দেহের সাথে তুলনা করা হয়, তবে অন্যদের শাসনকালকে বলা যায় এভাবে- মোটামুটি স্বাস্থ্যবান মানুষ যার  এক পা নেই এবং ক্র্যাচে ভর দিয়ে চলছে। আর ট্রাম্পের শাসনকালকে বলা যায় এভাবে-একেবারেই হাড্ডিসার মানুষ যার এক পা নেই এবং অন্ধ। ফলে সে ক্র্যাচে ভর করে চলছে এবং অন্ধ হওয়াই কালো চশমা পরেছে ও বাম হাতে আছে অন্ধরা যে লাঠি ব্যাবহার করে সেই সাদা লাঠি।    

USA Democracy:  A sham Democracy 

The United States goes around the world lecturing others about democracy. But essentially, it is a sham democracy. In pursuit of its own interests, it maintains close relations with monarchies in various Middle Eastern countries as well as military regimes in many countries. At the same time, when its interests are at stake, it does not hesitate to remove democratically elected leaders of different countries, whether through conspiracies or through direct military intervention.

If the state of democracy in the United States itself were compared to a human body, however, one would find little more than a skeletal figure. Although people are told about this right, that right, one freedom or another, all of these rights and freedoms are exercised within controlled limits. The president has been granted such extensive powers that, if he wished, he could potentially establish authoritarian rule.

Moreover, during Donald Trump’s presidency, democracy appears to be in an especially fragile state. Trump has been exercising his presidential powers so openly and aggressively that it may seem as though he has moved very close to one-man rule. Therefore, U.S. democracy can be described in two different ways: the Trump era versus the periods under other presidents.

If American democracy were compared to the human body, the periods under other presidents could be depicted as a relatively healthy person who has lost one leg and is walking with the help of a crutch.

Trump’s presidency, on the other hand, could be depicted as an extremely emaciated person who has lost one leg and is blind. Therefore, he is walking with the help of a crutch.Since he is blind, he is wearing dark glasses, and in his left hand he is holding the white cane used by blind people.
