মায়ের গর্ভেই গর্ভবতী হয়ে যায় যে পোকা!

জাবপোকা (Aphid) এমন এক বিস্ময়কর পোকা, যা মায়ের গর্ভে থাকা অবস্থাতেই নিজে গর্ভবতী হয়ে যেতে পারে। এই ঘটনাকে বিজ্ঞানীরা "টেলিস্কোপিং জেনারেশনস" (Telescoping Generations) বলেন। অনুকূল পরিবেশে স্ত্রী জাবপোকা পুরুষের সঙ্গে মিলন ছাড়াই পার্থেনোজেনেসিস (Parthenogenesis) পদ্ধতিতে বংশবৃদ্ধি করে। তখন মায়ের শরীরে বেড়ে ওঠা কন্যা ভ্রূণের ভেতরেও আরেকটি ভ্রূণ (নাতনি) গঠিত হতে শুরু করে। ফলে একই দেহে একসঙ্গে তিন প্রজন্মের অস্তিত্ব দেখা যায়—যেন রাশিয়ান ম্যাট্রিওশকা পুতুলের মতো। আরও আশ্চর্যের বিষয়, জাবপোকা ডিম না পেড়ে সরাসরি বাচ্চা প্রসব করে। তাই জন্ম নেওয়া বাচ্চাটিও ইতিমধ্যে গর্ভবতী থাকে। এই অনন্য প্রজনন পদ্ধতির কারণেই জাবপোকা খুব দ্রুত সংখ্যায় বৃদ্ধি পায় এবং কৃষিজ ফসলে ব্যাপক ক্ষতি করতে সক্ষম হয়।

The insect that becomes pregnant while still in its mother's womb!

The aphid is an extraordinary insect capable of becoming pregnant while still inside its mother's womb. Scientists refer to this phenomenon as "telescoping generations." In favorable conditions, female aphids reproduce through parthenogenesis, without mating with males.

At that stage, another embryo (a granddaughter) begins to form inside the female embryo developing within the mother's body. Consequently, three generations coexist within a single body—much like Russian Matryoshka dolls. Even more remarkable is that aphids give birth to live young rather than laying eggs; thus, the newborn offspring is already pregnant. It is this unique reproductive method that allows aphid populations to multiply rapidly and inflict massive damage on agricultural crops.
