এই ঘটনা কেন ঘটে?

পৃথিবী তার কক্ষপথের তুলনায় প্রায় ২৩.৫° হেলে ঘোরে। এ কারণে বছরের প্রায় ৬ মাস উত্তর মেরু সূর্যের দিকে ঝুঁকে থাকে—তখন সূর্য দিগন্তের নিচে নামে না, ফলে একটানা দিন দেখা যায় (Midnight Sun)। বাকি ৬ মাস উত্তর মেরু সূর্য থেকে দূরে হেলে থাকায় সূর্যের আলো পৌঁছায় না এবং একটানা রাত থাকে (Polar Night)।

Why does this happen?

The Earth is tilted at about 23.5° relative to its orbit. This means that for about 6 months of the year, the North Pole is tilted toward the Sun—when the Sun does not set below the horizon, resulting in continuous daylight (Midnight Sun). For the remaining 6 months, the North Pole is tilted away from the Sun, preventing sunlight from reaching it and creating continuous night (Polar Night).
