কেইসঃ  ডাই-মিথাইল মার্কারি

রবিন সাহেব শহরের খুব ধনী ও নামকরা  ব্যবসায়ী। তার বাড়িতে রাতে একটা পার্টি চলছিল। সবাই রাতের খাবার খেলেন। রাতের খাবারের পর কেউ চা খাচ্ছিলেন কেউবা কফি খাচ্ছিলেন। রবিন সাহেবের কফি খাওয়ার অভ্যাস ছিল। কিন্তু কফির চিনিটা তিনি সবসময় নিজ হাতে মেশাতেন। উনার  একজন খাবার পরীক্ষক ছিলেন, তার নাম জিমি। রবিন সাহেবের কাছে কফি দেওয়ার আগে জিমি কাপের কফি ও অতিরিক্ত চিনির স্যাম্পল নিলেন এবং মুখে নিয়ে স্বাদ নিলেন। সবকিছুই ঠিকঠাক। এমনকি তিনি কাপের সাথে দেওয়া চামচটিও পরখ করে দেখলেন যা ছিল পরিষ্কার ও ঝকঝকে। 

 রবিন সাহেব নিজ হাতে  চিনি মিশিয়ে চামচ দিয়ে নেড়ে কফিতে চুমুক দিলেন। কয়েক সেকেন্ড পরই তিনি নিস্তেজ হয়ে মেঝেতে পড়ে গেলেন। একেবারে স্পট ডেথ। চারিদিকে হইচই পড়ে গেল। পুলিশ ও ডিটেকটিভ কর্মকর্তারা ছুটে  আসলেন। সবার দাবির মুখে প্রথমেই জিমিকে গ্রেফতার করা হল। গোয়েন্দারা  ওই চিনিবিহীন কফি ও অতিরিক্ত চিনি পরীক্ষা করে দেখলেন, তারা এইসবের মধ্যে অস্বাভাবিক  কিছুই পেলেন না। এবার তারা কাপের  কফি পরীক্ষা করলেন এবং এর  মধ্যে বিষাক্ত কিছুর  অস্তিত্ব টের পেলেন।

প্রধান গোয়েন্দা কর্মকর্তা একে একে সবাইকে জেরা শুরু করলেন।ওই অনুষ্ঠানে চা-কফি সরবরাহ করেছে হ্যারি, চিনি সরবরাহ করেছে টমাস, চা চামচ সরবরাহ করেছে  স্যামি, কাপ-পিরিচ সরবরাহ করেছে জর্জ। প্রধান গোয়েন্দা কর্মকর্তা সবকিছু পরখ করে দেখলেন। তিনি পুলিশকে খাবার পরীক্ষক জিমিকে ছেড়ে দিতে বললেন এবং চা চামচ সরবরাহকারী   স্যামিকে গ্রেফতারের  নির্দেশ দিলেন। 

এখন প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে চামচ পরিষ্কার ঝকঝকে থাকা সত্ত্বেও প্রধান গোয়েন্দা কর্মকর্তা কেন স্যামিকে গ্রেপ্তারের নির্দেশ দিলেন? 

সমাধান : এখানে খাবার পরীক্ষক জিমি চিনিবিহীন কফি ও চিনির স্বাদ নেওয়ার পরও তার কিছুই হয়নি। অর্থাৎ এখানে সমস্যা তৈরি হয়েছে কফিতে চিনি নিয়ে চামচ দিয়ে নেড়ে খাওয়ার পর।অর্থাৎ চামচেই কিছু একটা ছিল। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, স্যামি ওই চামচে ডাই-মিথাইল মার্কারি  নামক একটা খুবই বিষাক্ত পদার্থের প্রলেপ দিয়ে রেখেছিল যা দেখতে স্বচ্ছ এবং এটা শুকিয়ে যাওয়াই চামচ পরিষ্কার ও ঝকঝকে দেখাচ্ছিল। পরে ওই চামচ কফিতে দেওয়ার সাথে সাথে তা বিষাক্ত হয়ে যায়।

Case: Dimethyl mercury

Mr. Robin is a very rich and famous businessman in the city. There was a party going on at his house at night. Everyone was having dinner.

 After dinner, some were drinking tea and some were drinking coffee. Mr. Robin had a habit of drinking coffee. But he always mixed the sugar in the coffee with his own hands.

He had a food tester named Jimmy. Before serving the coffee to Robin, Jimmy took a sample of the coffee and extra sugar and tasted it. Everything was fine. He even checked the spoon that came with the cup, which was clean and shiny.

Mr. Robin mixed the sugar with his own hands, stirred it with a spoon, and took a sip of his coffee. After a few seconds, he fainted and fell to the floor. Instant death. There was hue and cry all around.

Police and detectives rushed to the scene. Jimmy was arrested first, as everyone demanded. The detectives examined the unsweetened coffee and the extra sugar, but they found nothing unusual in it.

This time they tested the coffee that Robin had and detected the presence of something poisonous in it.

The chief intelligence officer began questioning everyone one by one. Harry provided the tea and coffee at that event, Thomas provided the sugar, Sammy provided the teaspoons, and George provided the cups and saucers.The chief detective checked everything. He told the police to release Jimmy, the food tester and ordered the arrest of Sammy, the teaspoon supplier.

Now the question is, why did the chief intelligence officer order Sammy's arrest even though the spoon was sparkling clean?

Solution: Here, food tester Jimmy tasted both sugar-free coffee and sugar, but nothing happened to him. That is, the problem here arose after he mixed sugar with coffee and ate it with a spoon. That is, there was something on the spoon itself.

In fact, Sammy had coated the spoon with a very toxic substance called dimethyl mercury, which was transparent and when it dried, it looked clean and shiny. Later, when the spoon was put in the coffee, it became toxic.
