অ্যালবাট্রস পাখির উড়ার সময় ঘুমানো নিয়ে কিছু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ তথ্য নিচে দেওয়া হলো:

• অর্ধ-মস্তিষ্কের ঘুম (Unihemispheric Sleep): অ্যালবাট্রস উড়ন্ত অবস্থায় তাদের মস্তিষ্কের অর্ধেক অংশ সজাগ রাখে এবং বাকি অর্ধেক অংশ ঘুমিয়ে নেয় । একে ইউনিহেমিস্ফেরিক স্লিপ বলা হয়।

• স্বল্প সময়ের ঘুম: তারা আকাশে দীর্ঘ সময় একটানা ঘুমানোর পরিবর্তে কয়েক সেকেন্ডের জন্য ছোট ছোট ‘পাওয়ার ন্যাপ’ বা ঝিমুনি নেয় ।

• গ্লাইডিং পদ্ধতি: এই পাখিরা তাদের ডানার বিশেষ হাড়ের গঠনের (Wing-locking mechanism) কারণে ডানা না ঝাপটেই দীর্ঘক্ষণ বাতাসে ভেসে থাকতে পারে। এই গ্লাইডিং করার সময় তারা অনায়াসেই বিশ্রাম নিতে পারে।

• কেন এভাবে ঘুমায়: সমুদ্রের ওপর দিয়ে কয়েক সপ্তাহ বা মাসব্যাপী বিরতিহীন ভ্রমণের সময় ক্লান্তি দূর করতে তারা এই বিবর্তনীয় কৌশল ব্যবহার করে। 

অ্যালবাট্রস পাখির  মতো আরও কিছু পাখি আছে যেমনঃ  কমন সুইফট (Common Swift), ফ্রিগেটবার্ড (Frigatebird) ,  স্যান্ডপাইপার (Sandpiper) ইত্যাদি যারা মস্তিষ্কের একপাশ সজাগ রেখে অন্য পাশকে বিশ্রাম দিতে পারে ।

• Unihemispheric Sleep: Albatrosses keep half of their brains awake while flying, and the other half sleeps. This is called unihemispheric sleep.
